DHHSC News!: Another Job Announcement at DDTP

IT Systems Administrator

 

California Communication Access Foundation (CCAF) is in need of a Systems Administrator in its Headquarters office.  The successful candidate independently installs, diagnoses, analyzes, tests, and maintains computers and other components of the Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program (DDTP)/California Telephone Access Program (CTAP) data and telecommunications infrastructure throughout California.  They will also provide technical support to end users and is responsible for maintaining IT Systems during the IT Manager’s absence.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities are:

§         Maintain security and provide backup to the IT Manager with regard to Cisco LAN/WAN equipment (routers, firewalls, switches) and Internet connections, including servers, printers, PC’s, laptops and peripheral equipment.  Conduct regular random software audits and create bi-monthly management reports to track compliance.

§         Manage the ManageEngine Service Desk web based portal, record, track, diagnose, troubleshoot and maintain computer hardware and software, follow up to ensure a quick resolution for 85+ employees with 100+ computers in all DDTP/CTAP offices using remote access technology or travelling onsite. 

§         Configure, install and upgrade computer software and hardware belonging to the State of California according to DDTP/CTAP standards. Support Palm Treo PDA’s including configuration and integration with our servers.

§         Conduct nightly server backups, restore files when necessary.

§         Routinely handles all IT procedures during the IT Manager’s absence, including after-hour and weekend availability for communication, EPC and IT resource vendor interaction during any downtime or outages, CPUC contact for the procurement process and direct report to the Director of Operations.

§         Continue development and maintenance of DDTP’s Intranet.

§         Prepare user documentation for training and self-help purposes, conduct new-user and general meeting training sessions, research questions and provide end user support, on-site and remotely, regarding software (i.e., Microsoft Office, Windows OS, Cisco VPN client, etc.) and best usage practices.

§         Maintain inventory of all IT equipment, warrantees and software library.  Prepare end-of-life and defective equipment for return to the State with the appropriate paperwork.

§         Create scripts to increase workflow by automating certain repetitive tasks (i.e. volume license loads, etc.)

§         Work with staff on administration and user support of our databases

§         Supports videoconferencing during meetings on point-to-point and relay connections.

§         Windows client and server OS, Microsoft Office 2007, Cisco VPN client, Netware 6.5, TCP/IP, PC/laptop hardware and GoodLink installation, configuration, maintenance upgrade and repair skills required.

§         Certifications in Windows, Netware, Cisco, knowledge of SQL, website development, Syncsort Backup Express, Dreamweaver, VoIP, VLANs preferred.

Required Skills and Experience: The successful candidate must have an AA or Bachelor’s degree and three to five years related experience, in addition to knowledge of:

 

§         principles and techniques of computer hardware and software installation, troubleshooting and maintenance, operating principles, methods, practices, options, and limitations of a wide range of computer hardware;

§         uses and limitations of a wide variety of software applications, including server and desktop operating systems, office suites, presentation graphics, web-based applications;

§         ability to locate, demo, test and provide needs/justification analysis for new hardware or software;

§         local and wide area network systems, including topologies, protocols, security;

§         VoIP telephony: knowledge and integration within DDTP’s LAN/WAN, software add-ins, web-based features, configuration and troubleshooting.

 

Here’s What’s Really Important:  the System Administrator:

·        must be available to work alone after normal business hours and be willing to travel independently to offices for system upgrades, installations, repairs or trainings;

·        must possess strong organizational skills - ability to handle diverse situations, multiple projects, and rapidly changing priorities;

·        have the ability to work independently in team oriented environment; self –starter who requires minimal supervision;

·        read and comprehend computer hardware and software documentation to solve technical problems, know where to research;

·        communicate clearly and concisely in a logical, organized fashion, orally and in writing.
